Depending on the type of fraud you have experienced you may need to take action immediately to prevent any further loss.
Things you should consider include:
- Changing passwords/passcodes
- Putting a stop on your bank card
- Notifying your bank
- Being careful when receiving phone calls/emails as to the legitimacy of the caller/sender
- Support in checking your computer if concerns relate to spyware/malware
- Whilst good practice to check your bank statements, we would recommend ensuring you do this regularly following a fraud.
You can report fraud to Action Fraud and/or the Police. The Report and Support team at the University can also help if you require further support, want to discuss your reporting options or if you have been defrauded/scammed by a University of Nottingham student or staff member.
If you have been defrauded/scammed through a platform such as Vinted, Facebook Marketplace, Ebay etc you can flag this and sometimes halt transactions through their reporting process.
If you have paid via PayPal, credit care or your bank card you can also contact these providers to see if you have any recourse to getting the payment back.
If you are a student and are struggling financially due to being a victim of fraud, you can contact the University’s finance and funding department to see if there are any funds you may be able to access.
